Anxiety Therapy in Greenwich, CT
Anxiety can make everyday life feel overwhelming. Constant worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, and fear about what might happen next can interfere with school, work, relationships, and sleep. If anxiety is taking over your life or your teen’s well-being, therapy can help.
At Kencel Psychotherapy, we provide evidence-based anxiety therapy in Greenwich, CT, helping teens, young adults, and individuals develop practical tools to manage anxiety and regain a sense of control.
The Practice has a physical office in the heart of Old Greenwich CT and treats clients virtually in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Florida.
Treatment comprehensively combines traditional psychodynamic techniques (talk-therapy), behavior modification and cognitive restructuring, anchored in certified DBT & CBT.
A digital whiteboard is used to administer traditional behavioral interventions in an online setting. This ensures clients receive consistent, exceptional care wherever they may be and provides record of what was worked on in sessions, keeping track of progress in treatment.
If within the treatment plan, collaboration with outside clinicians and referrals are also provided.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is more than occasional stress or nervousness. For many people, it becomes persistent and difficult to manage, even when there is no clear threat. Anxiety can show up in different ways, including:
Excessive worrying or overthinking
Panic attacks or sudden feelings of fear
Avoidance of social situations, school, or responsibilities
Trouble sleeping or concentrating
Physical symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, or muscle tension
Without support, anxiety can intensify over time. Therapy offers a safe space to understand what’s happening and learn effective ways to respond.
Who We Help
We work with a wide range of clients experiencing anxiety, including:
Teens struggling with school pressure, social anxiety, or performance stress
Young adults navigating transitions, independence, and identity
Adults dealing with chronic worry, panic, or anxiety-related burnout
Our Approach to Anxiety Therapy
At Kencel Psychotherapy, anxiety treatment is grounded in evidence-based care. Sarah Kencel, LCSW, uses proven therapeutic approaches to help clients understand and manage anxiety effectively.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify unhelpful thought patterns that fuel anxiety and teaches clients how to challenge and replace them with more balanced, realistic thinking. Over time, this reduces anxiety and builds confidence in handling stress.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness. These skills are especially helpful for clients who feel overwhelmed by intense emotions or anxiety-driven reactions.
SPACE + Parent Consultation
For children and teens with anxiety, Sarah is trained in SPACE, a parent-focused approach that helps reduce anxiety by changing patterns of accommodation within the family system.
This integrated approach allows therapy to be both structured and supportive, helping clients make real, lasting progress.
